‘The CD that the - now resident in Denmark - Brazilian vocalist Silvana Malta has recorded in Aarhus with her husband, the bass player Torben Westergaard, the saxophonist Steve Sacks, the guitar player Per Gade, the pianist Dario Eskenazi and Soren Frost and Portinho on drums and percussion, has definitely international format.
Malta sings lovely, and her clear and warm voice enlightened by a fresh sensualism creates a delicate contrast to the refined arrangements. Even the harmonies of Jobim’s Desafinado - the only ‘borrowed’ tune on the CD - has been brushed up, expressed excellently by Sacks on his soprano sax. The musicians of the group are responsible for all the other compositions, and they have done splendidly. Tunes like Westergaard’s ‘Flor do Verao’ and ‘Licao de Amor’, Sacks’ ‘Boa Noticia’ and Malta’s ‘Agora Eu Vou’ and ‘Jogos de Amor’ definitely deserves a permanent position in the Brazilian treasury of songs’.
